"Young Ladies Wildcard Challenge": Triple for Mavie Österreicher

She's done it again! 22-year-old Mavie Österreicher has won the "Young Ladies Wildcard Challenge" of the Upper Austria Ladies Linz 2025 - for the third time! In the final of the tournament, which is traditionally held a week before the WTA event, Österreicher beat Liel Rothensteiner (BMTC-Brühl Mödlinger TC) at the OÖTV Performance Centre in Linz's Bockgasse. Österreicher, who had already dominated in 2018 and 2021, won a thrilling final against the 19-year-old from Lower Austria 6:1, 3:6, 6:2.

The match was anything but a walk in the park for the 22-year-old, who had already won the title at the ÖTV New Year's Tournament in Vienna at the start of the year. The young player has often been plagued by injuries in the past. The joy of winning the wildcard challenge once again is all the greater: "I'm over the moon that I was able to get the wildcard for the WTA tournament qualifiers for the third time. It was a really tough final against Liel. I'm really looking forward to the coming week and, above all, to the experience I can gain at the tournament."

The now three-time Wildcard Challenge winner Mavie Österreicher has thus secured a wildcard for the Upper Austria Ladies Linz qualifiers and can look forward to appearing on the big stage at the WTA 500 tournament in the Linz Design Centre. In her first two appearances, Österreicher lost in the first round of qualifying despite a strong performance. Now the Viennese is making another attempt and is also hoping for the support of the Linz crowd.
Qualifying for the Upper Austria Ladies Linz starts on Sunday 26 January at 10am.
