Veronika Bokor wins wildcard challenge

Two Lower Austrians decided the winner of the "Young Ladies Wild Card Challenge" between themselves today, Sunday, at the Froschberg Tennis Centre! 22-year-old Veronika Bokor (TC Bakl Weigelsdorf), who had already dominated in 2020, won the final against 23-year-old Alina Michalitsch (UTC BH Wr. Neustadt) 3:6, 6:4, 6:2.

In the semi-finals, Bokor had prevailed against 18-year-old Claudia Gasparovic from Lower Austria, while Michalitsch was successful against 17-year-old Johanna Hiesmair from Upper Austria.

The now two-time Challenge winner Veronika Bokor thus secured a wild card for qualifying for the WTA tournament Upper Austria Ladies Linz 2023, which will take place at the Design Center from 5 to 12 February 2023.

Tournament director Sandra Reichel and ÖTV sports coordinator Marion Maruska were highly impressed by the standard of the final, which lasted just under two hours. Maruska summarised: "Veronika Bokor was the more active player who tried to take over the pace. She won the second set after a 4:2 lead and a 4:4 deuce, but Alina Michalitsch ran out of steam in the third set. In general, the Young Ladies Wild Card Challenge is a very important event for us because we want to offer local talent a platform to present themselves at national and international level."

Porsche Centre Upper Austria and Porsche Upper Austria are once again mobility partners of the Upper Austria Ladies Linz

The Managing Director of Porsche Linz-Leonding, MMag. Elisabeth Strübl, comments on the commitment to the women's tennis classic in Linz: "We are delighted to be the mobility partner of the Upper Austria Ladies Linz for the 5th time together with the Porsche Centre Upper Austria and Porsche Upper Austria - with the PIA locations Linz-Leonding, Linz, Asten and Wels. It's great that the women's tennis world class will once again be brought to the tournament site in the Porsche vehicle fleet. Sustainability also plays an important role in the automotive industry, which is why the 2023 vehicle fleet includes both electric and e-hybrid vehicles from the VW Group brands. The highlight of this top-class tournament is definitely the all-electric Porsche Taycan 4 Cross Turismo at centre court, featuring a special design by artist John Petschinger. We look forward to welcoming many tennis and Porsche enthusiasts."
