As a green event, a beacon for sustainability

Silver medal for Austria's most important women's sports event! At Europe's largest sports business event, the SPOBIS Conference in Düsseldorf, the world-class women's tennis tournament is Upper Austria Ladies Linz was honored on Wednesday evening for its commitment to sustainability. The award for sustainability has been given across sports in four categories for the best projects with a proven sustainable impact.

The projects had to be clearly related to the three elementary pillars of sustainability - economic, ecological and social. The aim of the call for entries was to present the most innovative sustainability projects in sports in the German-speaking world and to receive an award from a high-ranking jury. The Linz women's tennis classic had to hold its own against top-class competition.

The Upper Austria Ladies Linz was among the three finalists in the category "Venue and Event" together with the "European Championships" in Munich and the Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof and was thus also the only event from Austria to receive a nomination. First place went to the European Championships Munich 2022.

Tournament Director Sandra Reichel was both proud and grateful at the awards ceremony in Düsseldorf: "The Upper Austria Ladies Linz is the largest and most important women's sports event in Austria. For this year's tournament, which took place at the beginning of February at the Linz Design Center, we set out to open a new chapter in the event's 30-year history. This included certification as a Green Event in order to set standards for tennis in the area of sustainability. I would also like to express my special thanks to my team, who made a special effort for this project in particular. I am of course all the more pleased that these efforts are now also receiving such great recognition."

The SPOBIS Conference is the largest and most important sports business event in Europe. This year, over 4,000 participants from the sports business industry were present to exchange ideas and discuss the latest insights and trends in the industry.

The Upper Austria Ladies Linz still has the chance to win another award, as the second oldest indoor women's tennis tournament in the world has also been nominated in the GREEN EVENTS AUSTRIA "sustainable win" competition. The award will take place on June 29 in Vienna.
