Dear Tennisfans,
the Upper Austria Ladies Linz will not take place this year. But don't worry, we are only aiming for a further development of the tournament: We would like to move back to February. The motto is "Back to the roots", because already in the first eight years of our tournament history - between 1991 and 1998 - the Upper Austria Ladies Linz took place in a February week.
Why do we want to move the tournament? We have the following motives: At the beginning of the year, the players are hot for tennis, fit - and not tired after a long season. Even though we were able to present tennis world stars again and again - like last year when US Open sensation Emma Raducanu, former world number one Simona Halep and Australian Open finalist Danielle Collins played in Upper Austria - we had to admit that we also had to deal with many cancellations. The challenge of the old date was also contributed to by the fact that in the parallel week in autumn there were always competing tournaments in Asia that were worth paying for; at times the Upper Austria Ladies Linz took place directly before the WTA Finals. Top stars who had already qualified for the season finale of the best eight sometimes cancelled at short notice; others declared their season already over.
We have been thinking about a new date for quite some time. Now, due to the many postponements in the tournament calendar, a favourable opportunity has arisen. We ask for a little patience. We are currently working hard to fix a new date as soon as possible so that we can continue to write the history of the second oldest women's indoor tournament in the world in February after the "Australia Swing". Just as we started 31 years ago. Back to our roots, then.
Best regards,
Yours Sandra Reichel
