Australian Open semi-finalist Dayana Yastremska comes to Linz!

Tournament director Sandra Reichel has awarded a last-minute wildcard to an absolute world-class player: Dayana Yastremska, sensational semi-finalist at the Australian Open, will strengthen the field of participants at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz! The 23-year-old Ukrainian, who played her way from qualifying to the semi-finals in Melbourne, has been given a wildcard by tournament director Sandra Reichel. "I hope that I can take my good energy and good form from Australia with me to Upper Austria! I would love to play for the title in Linz," says the sensation from Odessa, who has already played in Upper Austria in 2020 and 2021. "I'm looking forward to returning to Linz. I remember that this tournament is something special. It has a great history and a very charming atmosphere. It's great that it's been given an upgrade and I'm looking forward to being part of the first edition as a WTA 500 tournament."

At the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, she had defeated Wimbledon winner Marketa Vondrousova (Czech Republic), two-time Australian Open winner Victoria Azarenka and Iga Swiatek conqueror Linda Noskova (Czech Republic), among others, on her way to the semi-finals. In the final round, she was beaten by the young Chinese star Qinwen Zheng (4:6, 4:6). "Dayana is a player who has always had huge potential and climbed to world number 21 as a 19-year-old teenager. I believe that she is now making her final breakthrough to the top of the world rankings. She plays extremely fast-paced, emotional tennis and is also a charismatic personality," says Tournament Director Sandra Reichel. "I'm delighted that we can present her here in Linz directly after her coup at the Australian Open."
