12 April 2026 could be a day steeped in history! Anastasia Potapova has the great opportunity to become the first Austrian woman in tournament history to win the title at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz.
Never before has a local heroine reached the final of Austria's biggest women's sporting event. Her opponent is none other than tournament favourite and world number ten Mirra Andreeva.
Anastasia Potapova could hardly believe her luck. She had already triumphed at the women's tennis classic in Linz in 2023. Back then, the event was still held on hard court and as a 250-player tournament and Potapova competed under a different flag.
The 25-year-old has been playing for Austria since the beginning of this year. She was quite nervous just before her opener at her home tournament in Linz, partly because she didn't know exactly what to expect. Potapova, who will be the new Austrian number one in the world rankings from Monday, got back into her Linz rhythm, made it to the final without losing a set and was also able to rely on the vociferous red-white-red fan support.

„Thank you very much for your support. I am almost speechless. It's hard to describe how I feel. I've reached my first 500 final at my first tournament as an Austrian in Austria. That means the world to me. I've never had so much support at a tournament,“ said a jubilant Potapova after her semi-final victory over Donna Vekic. Her offensive approach and extremely straightforward backhand were particularly impressive this week. Potapova is helped by the fact that she is actually left-handed. However, her first coaches put the racket in her right hand to play tennis.
However, the fact that she is showing her potential here in Linz is mainly due to her increased self-confidence over the last few days. This also ensures that she will once again be extremely aggressive in the final in order to secure a historic tournament victory. „Mirra is a very good player. I know how she plays, she knows how I play. We even trained together this week. If everything goes well, it will be a very exciting match,“ says Potapova, looking ahead to her fourth match against Andreeva. The last two matches went to the now 18-year-old - but now the two are playing each other for the first time in Austria!

Meanwhile, Mirra Andreeva has also discovered her love for Upper Austria. She knew her way around Austria really well even before this tournament. After all, she played many junior tournaments in Austria and has only the best memories of this time.
The 18-year-old found her clay court rhythm well in Linz, even though she struggled with herself at times in the semi-final against Elena-Gabriela Ruse. „When I realised that I couldn't do anything when she was playing well, I changed my own game. That was the turning point in the match,“ said Andreeva, describing the mental challenges in the final round.

And what can she expect in the final? „Anastasia hits the ball very hard and plays aggressively. Now it's Conchita's job to tell me what to do on the court,“ says Andreeva, already looking forward to discussing tactics with her coach. She already won a 500 tournament in Adelaide at the start of the year - if she wins again in Linz, she will overtake Victoria Mboko in the world rankings and move up to ninth place. So there's a lot at stake in the final of the Upper Austria Ladies Linz 2026! It will be historic in any case!

Tournament ambassador Barbara Schett is THE expert when it comes to the tennis players at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz. „Babsi“ takes a look behind the scenes for us.
Mirra Andreeva vs. Anastasia Potapova:
„My money is on the tournament favourite Mirra Andreeva because I think she's still got a few gears left. She's not playing her best tennis yet, but she'll improve with her opponent. I think she has more variation and that Potapova's pace doesn't bother her that much. Of course, she's already been in 500 finals and won Adelaide. That's why I think the young 18-year-old will come out on top. But of course you shouldn't underestimate what it can do when the crowd is fully behind Anastasia.”

ANDREEVA VS RUSE
They make the tournament possible from start to finish: the Upper Austria Ladies Linz tournament family is indispensable! Whether in front of or behind the scenes, on or off the court, in the shuttle service, at the information desk or around the centre court - it takes many helping hands to make the tournament happen year after year.
In keeping with the 35th anniversary, all employees who have been part of the team for more than 20 years and have been coming together year after year were honoured yesterday. We look forward to many more years with you, thank you for everything!

The inclusion match on Saturday proved it once again: Wheelchair tennis is a sport that could hardly be more exciting and dynamic. Alongside the doubles finalists Jesika Maleckova and Miriam Skoch, Christina Pesendorfer (Bad Ischl) and Vanessa Jenewein (Innsbruck) played a thrilling match, which Pesendorfer and Skoch won 10:6.
Bernhard Huber, Managing Director of Volkshilfe Oberösterreich, had words of praise for the event: „Inclusion means that everyone can take part. This tournament is therefore a prime example. I am proud that we have something like this in Upper Austria.”

On the semi-final Saturday, Sorana Cirstea from Romania and Zhang Shuai (China) secured their ticket to the doubles final. The duo clearly beat Ulrikke Eikkeri (Norway) and Quinn Gleason (USA) in two sets. „The secret is next to me - Sorana plays so well!” the Chinese player praised her partner. The harmony is undeniable, even though this is the first time the two have formed a doubles team in Upper Austria. It has been an incredible week for Sorana Cirstea, who is playing her last season on the WTA Tour: she made it to the quarter-finals in the singles competition and now she has another chance at the trophy.
In the doubles final (following the singles final), the pair will face Jesika Maleckova and Miriam Skoch today, who already reached the final on Friday.

Raiffeisenlandesbank Oberösterreich presented the Players Alpine Night in the VIP area at the start of the tournament week. Now Raiffeisenlandesbank Upper Austria CEO Reinhard Schwendtbauer took the opportunity to drop by the Design Centre again on the final weekend and was welcomed by tournament director Sandra Reichel and tournament ambassador Barbara Schett.

The tournament's number one has fully lived up to her status this week. This is not necessarily because Mirra Andreeva has played a class above the competition so far. But in terms of mental strength, she is playing in a dimension of her own, especially for an 18-year-old. Andreeva, who likes to sleep more than ten hours on average during tournaments (her record is 13 hours), is extremely strong-nerved and focussed in the decisive moments.
The world number ten is the first top 10 player since Dominika Cibulkova ten years ago to reach the final in Linz and has her sights set on her first major title on clay. It would be the perfect start to the clay court season for one of the favourites at the French Open. It starts in Linz!

Honour to whom honour is due: The Linz women's tennis classic celebrated its premiere 35 years ago and today the Upper Austria Ladies Linz is the second oldest WTA indoor tournament in the world. The best female tennis players in the world have always played on the Gugl in Linz and in the Design Center in the city centre (from 2000 to 2002 and since 2023).
To mark the occasion, WTA Supervisor Roberto Ranieri presented tournament director Sandra Reichel with a collage showing all the winners of the last 35 years.

In Upper Austria, special things just happen: in the Salzkammergut, on the Danube, between mountain peaks in the Alps or in cities like Linz and Wels, which are full of life. Culture, culinary delights and that feeling of being in exactly the right place. For example in the Mühlviertel or the Quellenviertel.

Austria's most important women's sporting event and ADMIRAL continue to pull together and are continuing their long-standing partnership at the 35th edition of the women's tennis classic in Linz. Jürgen Irsigler, Managing Director of ADMIRAL Sportwetten, paid a visit to the Upper Austria Ladies Linz on the semi-final day.
A major parallel between the Upper Austria Ladies Linz and ADMIRAL?
It is not only the women's tennis classic, which was launched in 1991 by tournament founder Peter-Michael Reichel, that is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. ADMIRAL has also been a strong operating brand with firm roots in Austria since 1991 and is the market leader in the stationary sports betting and gaming sector.
