Olympic champion Belinda Bencic serves on her comeback tour in Linz

Grüezi Belinda! An Olympic champion will also be competing at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz 2025. Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, who won the singles gold medal at the 2021 Games in Tokyo, is returning to the women's tennis classic in Linz after six years with great ambitions. The 34th edition of the tournament will take place from 26 January to 2 February 2025 at the Linz Design Center.

At the Tokyo Games, the now 27-year-old pulled off a real surprise coup when she defeated Marketa Vondrousova from the Czech Republic in the final to become the first Swiss Olympic tennis champion. It is the biggest success in the career of the strong server from the canton of St. Gallen. "I played as if it was the last match of my life. This success also belongs to Martina Hingis and Roger Federer. I did it for them too," said a jubilant Bencic, who also won the silver medal in the doubles alongside her compatriot Viktorija Golubic. She has triumphed at a total of eight WTA tournaments in her career.

Last spring, the former world number four gave birth to daughter Bella. Just eight weeks after giving birth, she was back on the tennis court for the first time and at the beginning of the year she showed impressively in Australia that she is once again a force to be reckoned with. She competed for Switzerland at the United Cup and reached the round of 16 in Adelaide at her first attempt - and is really happy to be back. "There was no question for me to come back. I still have the goal of winning a Grand Slam tournament," says the Billie Jean King Cup player.n from Switzerland.

This is the fifth time Bencic has played in the city on the Danube. She last played in Upper Austria in 2019. She achieved her best result in 2017 when she reached the quarter-finals. "Belinda Bencic is almost a friend of our tournament and I'm really looking forward to seeing her again. As one of the tennis mums on the tour, she is a role model and certainly has what it takes to be among the world's best again," explains Tournament Director Sandra Reichel.
