Inside Out
Karolina Muchova
Four semi-final tickets up for grabs:
Who hasn't yet, who wants to again?
Only eight of the 28 players who started the tournament are still in the competition - the hot phase of the Upper Austria Ladies Linz has finally begun! On today's quarter-final day, starting at 1 pm, there are four absolute hit matches on the centre court with some newcomers in the last eight at the Design Center and with players who have already celebrated great success on this court.
That applies to Maria Sakkari, for example, who reached the semi-finals in Linz two years ago as the tournament's number one. Now, however, the situation is somewhat different. Sakkari is on her way back to the top of the world after a shoulder injury and celebrated a successful return on Wednesday. During her opening match against Viktorija Tomova, she was not only on top of her game, but also in high spirits - especially when DJ Davidoff got the crowd and the players off their seats with a sirtaki. "Good job, DJ," Sakkari thanked him in the interview. Will she have reason to dance again today? Her opponent Dayana Yastremska will probably have a lot planned for her quarter-final. She is in the top eight in Linz for the first time at her fourth attempt and has made a lasting impression in both of her matches. She has not dropped a set so far.
Her opponent Dayana Yastremska is likely to have a lot planned for her quarter-final. She is among the top eight in Linz for the first time at her fourth attempt and has made a lasting impression in both of her matches. She has not dropped a set so far. This also applies to Clara Tauson from Denmark. The Scandinavian spent her day off yesterday at "Sport and Fun with the Stars" and trained with lots of kids in the morning. Today, the 22-year-old wants to prove her strong form on centre court. Tauson is not only the player who has hit the second most aces on the tour so far this year, she also won her third WTA title in Auckland and only narrowly lost to two-time title winner Aryna Sabalenka at the Australian Open. Her opponent Anna Blinkova is the talk of the town after her round of 16 victory over former world number three Elina Svitolina on Thursday. "I'm so proud to have won against such a great fighter," said a delighted Blinkova after her great performance. Now she wants to go one better and reach her first semi-final at a 500 tournament.
The duel between tournament top favourite Karolina Muchova and Anastasia Potapova should be absolutely top-class. Two worlds collide in terms of play. Muchova shone in her opening match with variable attacking tennis, often looking for the net and frequently using the slice. However, it remains to be seen whether she will be able to keep up this game against the 2023 Linz winner. Because Potapova and Linz are a match made in heaven! She has won nine of the ten matches she has played at this tournament so far. "Not only does this court look beautiful, it also suits my game perfectly," enthuses the 23-year-old, who has lost three out of four matches against Muchova so far, most recently at the US Open last year.
At the end of the day, the big question of which former Linz finalist will come a little closer to her next final in Upper Austria will be answered. Petra Martic and Ekaterina Alexandrova have both played in the final in Linz - Martic lost to Anastasia Potapova two years ago, while Alexandrova was narrowly defeated in 2018 and 2024. Today, however, it's all about making it through to the last four. In terms of the world rankings, Alexandrova is the favourite as number 30 in the rankings, but Petra Martic has won both previous duels. And a run from qualifying to the quarter-finals will certainly give her a good dose of self-confidence!
We guarantee you: World-class tennis awaits you from the first to the last serve!

High profile visit
Political celebrities at the Design Centre
Nobody really wanted to miss this day of the round of 16! On Thursday, we welcomed a number of political celebrities to the Design Centre. Upper Austria's Governor Thomas Stelzer met the Greek top player Maria Sakkari, while Provincial Councillor Markus Achleitner and the newly elected Mayor of Linz Dietmar Prammer assisted with the coin toss at the centre court. Thank you very much for the visit!
Kirsten Flipkens
"Flipper" is back in Linz
Wait a minute, we know this woman! Top seed Karolina Muchova is in Linz in the company of a celebrity. Her coach is Kirsten Flipkens, the former world number 13, who won the doubles competition in Linz in 2018 and has always enjoyed playing on the Danube. In 2013, the Belgian high-class technician, who is known by many as "Flipper", even reached the Wimbledon semi-finals. Now she is back in Linz in a new role. Welcome back, "Flipper"!

PLAN INTERNATIONAL
Setting an example together for children's justice and equal rights: Flags were waved at centre court on Thursday evening.
Kids
Sport & Fun
As part of the "Sport & Fun with the Tennis Stars" series of events, kindergarten children from Linz were invited to the world-class women's tennis tournament yesterday. The initiative is supported above all by the Deputy Mayor of the City of Linz, Karin Hörzing. The children enjoyed a varied morning of sport with creative games and each received a "goodie bag" and a medal. In addition to tournament ambassador Barbara Schett and hall speaker Barbara Haas, Kirsten Flipkens, also a former WTA player and current coach of Karolina Muchova, and Clara Tauson were also present.
At the end of the day, all the children were given a healthy snack - a day that brought a sparkle to their eyes and will definitely be remembered!
Partners
LINZ AG Day
Today is "Linz AG Day" at the Design Centre! The multi-utility provider for energy supply, public transport and municipal services in the region is a long-standing partner of our tournament and will be in the spotlight on quarter-final day at Upper Austria Ladies Linz.
Young talent
Student press conference
Questions upon questions! They were put to ex-professional and hall announcer Barbara Haas at a press conference for school pupils on Thursday. Around 65 pupils from various year groups attended the event organised by LINZ AG and were able to ask everything that was on their minds. What is a tournament day like for the players? What is Barbara Haas' favourite tournament? And how do you juggle school and professional life? There were answers to these questions and more! For the rest of the day, everyone went to the stands to cheer on the players at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz. A great change from everyday school life!
Sustainability
Cool action!
Turn old into new! Together with our partner LINZ AG, a new initiative was launched in autumn 2024 in which collection boxes for used tennis balls were handed out to clubs and tennis halls. Spectators can also hand in their used tennis balls at the tournament and receive goodies. True to the motto: Together for sustainability!
The best thing is that new balls are made from the old balls collected from all over Upper Austria, Salzburg and parts of Lower Austria. These balls are even ITF-certified and can therefore also be used for tournaments.
Guest performance
FC BLAU-WEIß LINZ
This tradition has proven itself! FC Blau-Weiß Linz visited the Upper Austria Ladies Linz yesterday. There was also a highlight away from the spectacle on the centre court: Dietmar Prammer, newly elected mayor of the city of Linz, and Karin Hörzing, deputy mayor of the city of Linz, played a round of football tennis with the players on the mini-court.
Elina Svitolina
Hello, Elina!
Unfortunately, it was only a short guest appearance! For former world number three Elina Svitolina, her return to the Upper Austria Ladies Linz after twelve years came to an end after the first match. The Ukrainian tried everything, but ultimately had to recognise Anna Blinkova's enormously stable performance. After 97 minutes, Blinkova converted her second match point to win 6:4, 6:4. See you again in 2026, Elina!
Double Trouble
Number 1 serves
Impressive! Katerina Siniakova seems to have transported her form from Melbourne straight to Upper Austria. The Czech, who recently won her 10th doubles title at a Grand Slam at the Australian Open, put in a strong performance in the first round of the doubles competition together with her Chinese partner Zhang Shuai. The pair beat Quinn Gleason (USA) and Kimberley Zimmermann (Belgium) 6:3, 6:3. The British-Chinese duo Emely Appleton and Qianhui Tang now await in the quarter-finals. Will Siniakova be able to utilise her Linz experience again? After all, this will be the 28-year-old's eighth time in the provincial capital!
After the quarter-finals await Siniakova/Zhang today (2 p.m./match court 1), the first ticket to the final will be awarded afterwards. The Kichenok sisters Lyudmylla and Nadiia will then face off against Anna Danilina (Kazakhstan) and Irina Khromacheva.
TALK
Upper Austrian insurance company
The Expert Women's Special Talk organised by Oberösterreichische Versicherung is always a special highlight in the supporting programme of the WTA tournament! The sixth edition of the expert forum centred on the topic of "Democracy in the changing media" in connection with media consumption in the digital world. The event was hosted by Kathrin Kühtreiber-Leitner, CEO of OÖ Versicherung. The panel of experts was a colourful mix and consisted of Susanne Dickstein (Editor-in-Chief of OÖ Nachrichten), Christine Haberlander (Deputy Governor of Upper Austria), Barbara Schett (Tournament Ambassador UALL), Siliva Lackner (Managing Director of advertising agency Die Jungen Wilden) and Julia Heis-Strandl (Content Creator, Advertising & Marketing Buchbinderei Strandl). What responsibility do the media have today? How can the younger generation be trained to use media responsibly? And how has social media changed everyday working life in different sectors? Around 100 participants listened intently to the lively discussions on these questions and more. We are already looking forward to the next edition!
Expats Tour
Behind the scenes
Take a look behind the scenes of a world-class tennis tournament! This was possible for guests of Business Upper Austria on Thursday: presenter Ullrich Jelinek guided the visitors through the rooms and corridors that normally remain hidden to fans. The Players Lounge, the press office and other important places were not left out! And once again, it became clear that there is much more behind the scenes than can be seen on the pitch.
