Dream start for Mavie Österreicher, 15-year-old Tamara Kostic surprises
Linz, 28 October 2021 - Pumpkins were the lucky charms at the draw for the "Young Ladies Wildcard Challenge" on Thursday at nine o'clock! Under each pumpkin was the name of one of the eight players competing for a wildcard to qualify for the WTA tournament "Upper Austria Ladies Linz 2021".
The number one seed from Vienna, Mavie Österreicher, had a dream start! The first winner of the Wildcard Challenge in 2018, then 16 years young, defeated Irina Dshandshgava from Lower Austria 4:3 (6), 4:3 (8), 2:4, 4:0. Österreicher won her second match against Nina Walter (Upper Austria) 4:2, 4:0, 4:0.
The first 15-year-old Viennese Tamara Kostic caused a surprise with her 4:2, 4:3, 4:3 victory over the number two seed Veronika Bokor from Lower Austria, the winner of the Challenge in 2020. Kostic won her second match without a fight because her opponent Stefanie Auer withdrew.
The "Young Ladies Wildcard Challenge" will continue on Friday at 11 a.m. with the group matches, with the final also starting on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Froschberg Tennis Centre.
