From Linz to Grand Slam champion: Mirra Andreeva triumphs in Paris

This is the greatest triumph of her still-young career! Mirra Andreeva, the winner of the Upper Austria Ladies Linz 2026, has won the first Grand Slam title of her career at the French Open in Paris. In a historic final, Andreeva beat Poland’s Maja Chwalinska in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

So the motto „It all starts in Linz“ has certainly come true for the 19-year-old Andreeva: Just 55 days after Andreeva won the Upper Austria Ladies Linz 2026 at the Linz Design Centre with a final victory over the Austrian Anastasia Potapova, she has now celebrated the biggest title of her career at Roland Garros. She is also the youngest winner in Paris since Monica Seles in 1990.

Sandra Reichel, the tournament director in Linz, was particularly rooting for „Mighty Mirra“. „This is a sensational achievement for Mirra. For me, it was only a matter of time before she won her first Grand Slam tournament. But the fact that she’s managed it so quickly, after starting her clay-court preparations here in Linz for the first time, is absolutely incredible,“ said Reichel of Andreeva’s major coup. „Mirra was an absolute crowd favourite right from her first appearance in Linz and took the form she built up here with her to Paris, where she not only played fantastically but also showed incredible mental strength and maturity,“ added Reichel.

Since her performance in Upper Austria, Andreeva has had an outstanding clay-court season, reaching the semi-finals in Stuttgart following her triumph in Linz, making it to the final again in Madrid, and proving unstoppable in Paris.

„I just focus on getting a little bit better every day. Even though I’ve won the tournament here in Linz, there are still lots of areas where I can improve. The tournament in Linz was brilliant. I felt right at home,“ said Andreeva after her triumph in Linz; she has continued to develop under coach Conchita Martinez in recent weeks and has now reaped her well-deserved reward in Paris.
