Sometimes life writes the best stories: As one of the first mums on tour, Sybille Bammer returned to the tennis court a year after the birth of her daughter Tina in 2001 and experienced the most successful time of her tennis career. „Bille“ Bammer won against world stars such as Serena Williams and made it into the top 20 in the WTA rankings - as a mum, she played her best tennis.
And it was always best at home anyway! Born in Linz, she was always particularly excited about her home tournament, where she competed nine times in total, and celebrated her greatest success in 2005 when she made it into the top eight and only lost to Nadja Petrova in the quarter-finals after a great fight.
„After the birth of my daughter, I realised that this was my last chance. I didn't want to start again after the birth. But my partner said: „You're only 21 years old, give it one more try.“ He believed in me - and I gave it my all,“ said Bammer in an interview with „Die Presse“ about the end of her career at the tournament in Bad Gastein, which was also organised by Sandra Reichel and her team, in 2011.
Sybille Bammer - a role model and inspiration from Linz. She was one of the first to show how motherhood and competitive sport can be combined.
