Top level at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz qualifiers

Women's tennis at the highest level is not only guaranteed in the main draw at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz 2023, but also in the qualifiers! The draw on Saturday afternoon produced some exciting matches!

Six ÖTV players want to seize the chance to make it into the main draw of the women's tennis classic in Linz. Luck of the draw: there will be no internal Austrian duel in the first round!

Sinja Kraus opens the qualifying round at 10 a.m. on Centre Court against Varvara Gracheva.

Barbara Haas from Upper Austria has the fourth match of the day on centre court against Viktoriya Tomova from Bulgaria. Melanie Klaffner (against Dalma Galfi from Hungary) and Veronika Bokor (against Kamilla Rakhimova) will then play their matches. Alina Michalitsch has also made it into the qualifying round; the Young Ladies Wildcard Challenge finalist will play her second match on Match Court 1 against Clara Tauson from Denmark. There was a last-minute change late on Saturday evening: Because no "special exempt" wildcard was claimed, Marketa Vondrousova was promoted to the main draw. As a result, 17-year-old Johanna Hiesmair from Upper Austria, a semi-finalist in the Wildcard Challenge, slipped into the qualifying round and will play Andrea Gamiz from Venezuela! The match starts on Sunday at the Design Centre at 10 am! Admission is free on this day - it's the so-called "Family Day"!

More attractive names in the qualifiers:

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova: The 31-year-old 2015 Linz winner has been given a wildcard for the qualifying round by tournament director Sandra Reichel, and her opponent in the opening round will be Viktoria Kuzmova.

Sara Errani: The 35-year-old Italian played her first professional season in 2002, was number five in the world rankings, won 9 WTA tournaments in singles and 27 in doubles. With partner Roberta Vinci, Sara Errani triumphed at all Grand Slam tournaments.

Anna-Lena Friedsam: The 29-year-old German reached the final of the Upper Austria Ladies Linz in 2015, which she lost to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
