The qualifiers for the "Upper Austria Ladies Linz 2021" are also top-class: with Raducanu conqueror Sasnovich and all-time great Zvonareva

Linz, 21. 10. 2021 - Emma Raducanu expressed her anticipation of her premiere in Austria in a video message to tennis fans: "I'm really looking forward to Linz and hope to see you all there," said the reigning US Open winner!

World-class women's tennis is guaranteed at the "Upper Austria Ladies Linz 2021" not only in the main competition, but also in qualifying! The list published by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) includes a number of illustrious names: From Anastasia Potapovathe 20-year-old former Russian tennis prodigy, over Hamburg winner Elena-Gabriela Ruse up to Vera Zvonarevaan all-time great in women's tennis. The entry list in qualifying is so strong that the Croatian Donna Vekic, a familiar face in Linz, is only the first "successor" on the waiting list as the 101st ranked player in the world.

The 37-year-old Russian Vera Zvonareva (photo) has experienced all the highs and lows in her tennis career: triumphs (12 WTA titles, world number two in October 2010, prize money of 15 million US dollars) as well as serious injuries, so much so that she announced her retirement from tennis in 2016. She returned to the tour at the end of March 2017 and won the doubles competition at the US Open with her German partner Laura Siegemund in September 2020.

The reigning US Open winner Vera Zvonareva was delighted to receive a wildcard for the main draw at the "30th anniversary of Upper Austria Ladies Linz" and defeated the young Ukrainian star Marta Kostyuk 6:4, 6:2 in a generational duel.

More attractive names in the qualifiers:

Anastasia Potapova: The 20-year-old Russian, currently number 68 in the WTA rankings, already competed in the junior competition at Wimbledon in 2015 and reached the quarter-finals at her first attempt, as she did at the Australian Open in 2016. She advanced to the semi-finals at the French Open and finally won her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon after a two-set victory over Dayana Yastremska in the final.

Elena-Gabriela Ruse: The 23-year-old Romanian won her first title on the WTA Tour this year! Ruse fought her way to the final as a qualifier at the "Hamburg European Open", which is also organised by Sandra Reichel's sports agency MatchMaker - where her opponent was Andrea Petkovic, a figurehead of German women's tennis. The young Romanian won the final in two sets!

Aliaksandra Sasnovich: The 27-year-old from Belarus recently showed top form at the tournament in Indian Wells, which Emma Raducanu felt. The 18-year-old Brit was beaten by Sasnovich in her first match since her sensational triumph at the US Open. It is quite possible that there will be a rematch at the "Upper Austria Ladies Linz 2021" if Sasnovich manages to make it into the main draw after qualifying.

The "waiting list" for the qualifiers also includes other well-known names in Linz such as the German Mona Barthel (WTA 101), the Luxembourger Mandy Minella (WTA 147) and the Belgian Kirsten Flipkens (WTA 156).

On Saturday, 6 November, the qualifying matches are FREE to attend! On GIRLS' DAY (Sunday, 7 November), all children up to the age of 16 are admitted free of charge. On LADIES' DAY (Monday), all female tennis fans will be welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine and ÖTV championship players will receive a 50 % discount on their ticket.
